What do you think is the Hawaii Department of Education’s greatest strength?

Hawaii DOE values the cultures of the peoples who reside in the state. There are multiple opportunities to interact with and learn about others. Professional development led by teachers for teachers makes the knowledge gained more valuable and pertinent to the community that I teach in.

What do you think is the greatest strength about the complex area that you work in? What is your complex area known for?

My complex area has a strong sense of family. There are multi-generational homes that support education and take pride in education. My complex is known for their athletic programs and Advanced Placement courses.

What are some fun activities that individuals enjoy doing outside school hours within the COMPLEX AREA that you represent?

Walking and jogging around the neighborhoods, going to the town centers and shopping complexes, movies, going to restaurants to listen to live music and watching and participating in competitive sports.

What are some fun activities that individuals enjoy doing outside school hours within the COMPLEX AREA that you represent?

Going to concerts and plays at the Blaisdell, art museums, going to the beach, hiking the trails around the island.

What do you enjoy most about the students you teach in Hawaii?

I enjoy the rich culture that each and every child represents which are all so rich and complex.

What do YOU enjoy doing in your free time while in Hawaii?

I walk each and every day before school. Recently I started doing virtual marathons and I’m looking forward to an in person marathon soon. Hiking different trails around the island. I also enjoy going to the movies and window shopping, especially at Ala Moana.

What’s YOUR favorite local food on your island? How would you describe the food?

If I’m looking for a quick snack that’s also satisfying I would choose a spam musubi which is rice topped with spam and a delicious sauce wrapped in a piece of seaweed. My favorite sweet treat would be shave ice, which I always called a snow cone when I lived on the mainland. Here, the sauce is sweeter and thicker, and you can get it with vanilla ice cream on the bottom and condensed milk on the top.

What’s your favorite place to eat on your island? What kind of food is it?

My favorite place to eat is The Lanai at Mamala Bay which is located on Hickam Air Force Base. They serve fresh seafood and traditional American dishes. The best part is the view because you are able to look out over the gorgeous blue water of Pearl Harbor and you can also watch planes land at Honolulu International Airport. I also enjoy Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii Kai which also has a gorgeous view.
